Miami Seaquarium internships are designed for college students and recent graduates who wish to gain valuable experience working with marine mammals and tropical birds. These internships will help aspiring marine mammal trainers and animal keepers acquire hands-on experience that is a prerequisite to gaining employment in the zoological field. Animal training interns will be exposed to all aspects of the daily care and training of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, Pacific harbor seals, and California sea lions. Animal care interns will be exposed to West Indian Manatees and various tropical birds. Internships are available for the spring, summer and fall.
Interns will be incorporated into the daily activities of the Zoological Operations department including: diet preparation and sanitation, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, speaking in public presentations and show support, guest relations, and animal monitoring and safety.
The internship is a paid position at $7.75 per hour. Interns must be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week for 4-6 months. This internship requires heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs daily. Candidates must be physically fit. Current SCUBA and CPR certification is preferred. Miami Seaquarium is a drug-free workplace. All candidates must pass a voluntary screening if offered an internship. There is no housing available.
